2013
FEATURED WORK

Come Out Festival

DreamBIG Children’s Festival is South Australia’s pre-eminent arts festival for schools and families. Back in the day, it was known as Come Out Festival. Freerange was engaged as the creative agency for the 2013 festival — identity, branding, posters and website.

Our creative director Amy designed a bold, playful look and feel that was splashed right across the city. The flexibility and simplicity of our Gluttonberg Events suite (our CMS was still going strong in 2013) was key to delivering a fully-featured online festival program on a fast turnaround and tight budget.

The Dreaming Gallery

The showpiece of this project started as a question: it’s the youth arts festival, so what if kids could draw their own festival poster?

That idea grew into an interactive engagement campaign, and it was so well received that it became a festival event in its own right. Young South Australians shared their dreams with the community through an online gallery — drawings, paintings, wild imaginings — all submitted by kids and displayed for everyone to see.

The gallery is sadly lost to time. But the idea still holds up: give young people the tools, get out of the way, and let them surprise you.

New digs

By 2013, we’d grown beyond a pure digital focus to have our own brand and design team, and so had outgrown our old studio. We moved into a new shared space, and had a fun-filled 2013, rich with creative vibes.

Cohabiting on the ground floor of Rising Sun Pictures’ building with Nation Creative, we spent the year swapping inspiration, battling for music supremacy and ‘sharing’ each others knock off drinks.
